About Us

We have been avid diecast collectors for many years, but only recently fell in love with the history of the little cars we have found hanging on our walls since 1995. It was in this desire to know more about what we cherished, that we discovered there was so more to them than meets the eye.

Our collection is roughly 1500 loose cars, with around 900 of those being prototypes and preproductions. Johnny Lightning wasn't our first love, but it is the one that has captivated us the most. Our collecting habits may have changed over the past 25 years, but one thing has remained a constant; Johnny Lightning.

It was in the beginning of 2020 that the idea of an informational website started to form.

We had wished many times that there was an easier way to compare our preproductions and castings with others. There are very limited resources available, especially when it comes to something that may have never came to production. Thus we started keeping pictures of prototypes, preproductions, and other types of Johnny Lightning from public resources such as social media and ebay. If we could not find a place to look up a car, why not assemble a large library so that others may be able to.

Something we would love to have happen is other collectors who have special pieces they want documented and shared to submit photos of them. Working together with collectors, past employees, and other sources hopefully something unique and great will happen; a vast vault of knowledge and pictures of Johnny lightning.

To end this section of the site we would like to share what started us down the Johnny Lightning path of preproductions and prototypes; The dukes of Hazzard. It is what sparked the flame for Johnny Lightning, as they made the best replicas in 1:64th. Without that interest, we may have never have seen how magnificent Johnny Lightning really was. Sure we collected specific castings here or there from the brand, but never delved so deep into the amazing paint jobs, awesome detail, lightning fast wheels, and so much more that they had to offer.

Our collection of production cars exploded, along with our very first insight to the world of what happens before they get mass produced; the preproduction stage. This behind the scenes look at how a car goes from raw materials to mass production is quite the amazing adventure. We strive to share with others that adventure and hopefully spark someone else to love Johnny Lightning as much as we do.
